Nothing says ‘home’ quite like the aroma of baked goods laced with cinnamon, and the scent of cinnamon makes any home smell fresh and inviting. While you may associate cinnamon scented ornaments with the holiday season, you can use them all year round to bring a fresh down home feeling to your kitchen, pantry or a sunny window. They’re easy to make and cheaper than store-bought fragrances that are full of chemicals and additives.

Gather your Supplies & Make Some Dough

You can whip up a batch of cinnamon dough ornaments with items that you have around the kitchen every day. Measure out one cup of cinnamon and one cup of applesauce. You’ll also need a larger plastic zipper-top bag, cookie cutters for whatever shapes you’d like to make, a pair of scissors and narrow ribbons for hanging your finished creations. If you want to add other decorative touches to your project, you’ll also need plastic craft eyes, latex craft paint, a fine tip artist brush, clear drying glue and faux gems and colored glitter.

The dough is very easy to make. Simply place the applesauce and cinnamon in the zip-up bag and need the mixture until a soft dough forms. As soon as the ingredients are well combined, the dough is ready to use. Roll it out on a cutting board to roll into pinwheels or cut into shapes. You can make whatever shapes or trinkets you can imagine. Cookie cutters in the shape of stars, animals, flowers or geometric shapes are just a few of the possibilities.

Cinnamon Scented Dough Ornament Ideas

Try making sparkling pinwheel ornaments to fill any room with the enticing aroma of cinnamon. Arrange your cinnamon ornaments in a pretty glass or ceramic bowl with a handful of cinnamon sticks or potpourri for a unique table top accessory.

To make the ornaments, start by rolling the dough out so that it is about one-quarter inch thick. Sprinkle your choice of colored glitter on top of the dough and roll it up tightly. Trim off the ends and slice the rolled dough vertically to make ornaments. Allow the ornaments to dry for at least twenty-four hours then display them in a bowl, glass vase, or clear coffee cup.

Make bears, stars, flowers, cats, dogs, cows and more with cookie cutters. Don’t limit yourself to cookie cutter shapes, however. You can cut out simple shapes like sailboats and birdhouses with a knife. Embellish cinnamon dough animals with plastic eyes and use thin licorice for whiskers, or you can paint features on the crafts with latex craft paint. Lightly press colored or metallic glitter into the dough while it is still pliable for stars, flowers or other shapes. Or, instead of glitter, add clear drying cement and affix faux gems after the dough has dried. You can also embellish your creations with buttons, beads, seashells and stones. If you want to hang your creations with ribbon, create a hole for the ribbon with an ordinary drinking straw. Always allow finished ornaments to dry completely before handing them. Hang groups of ornaments threaded with ribbon and use them as sun catchers in a kitchen window, or hang them from a door, a shelf peg or below a cupboard. When embellished with glitter or gems, they will add sparkle and the soothing scent of cinnamon throughout the house.

I’ve been trying to find reviews on them but can’t find any.
I’ve bought 2 bags already and by the time I’ve put my stuff in them I just haven’t been happy and ended up taking them back so I want to be sure before purchasing another one, especially online without seeing it in person.

There are two way to have more money: make more or spend less. Running a successful craft business implies not only making money but also controlling costs wherever you can. Here are some tips to help you save money:

- Buy your supplies in bulk. Wholesale prices for supplies are mostly 25% less than retail prices. You will be in a better bargaining position and get better discount. If you can hook-up with fellow craft and buy together, your purchasing power goes up and you may be eligible for even more discount.

- Use online services where you can. Many companies give you discount if use online account, rather than going to store. Mission Grounds Gourmet Coffee Helps Children

Mission Grounds Gourmet Coffee is a non profit organization, a 501 C Corporation, dedicated to helping children. Our main focus is to help orphans and children in need; impoverished children in third world countries and homeless children in inner city neighborhoods in the United States.

Mission Grounds is currently helping children in the US, China, Russia, Costa Rica, South Africa, Kenya and Venezuela. We provide support in many ways; from food to shelter and clothing. We also provide monthly support in Africa, Russia, Costa Rica, China and Venezuela.

We are engaged in two large construction projects which include building a school in China and an orphanage in Venezuela. Both projects should be completed by Spring 2008. Plans are also under way to build another school in China and another orphanage in Venezuela for 2008. We are also looking at construction projects in Nigeria and in Sudan.

In Atlanta, Mission Grounds is working with a homeless shelter for children, Jars of Clay Outreach. We have contributed new appliances for the shelter’s kitchen, provided craft materials for after school fun and supplied book bags which included school supplies and children’s books.

Through our monthly newsletter, we have found 2 groups of adults who are donating their time. They read to the children, help them with their homework and provide them with the attention they need. We are also working with children’s groups in Buffalo and in New Orleans providing books, book bags and other school supplies.

Mission Grounds receives its money to operate from donations and from the sale of coffee. We hope to expand our mission of helping children in other cities such as Pittsburgh and Charlotte.
