Spring has sprung, Easter is just around the corner. One of the most celebrated holidays is Easter and part of the reason why this holiday is loved is the food associated with it. If you are hosting an Easter dinner with your friends or family this year, here are some good tips for some delicious Easter recipes.
Maple Syrup Ham and Sweet Potatoes with Marshmallows
One of the most requested types of food to eat at Easter is ham and you can sweeten up the taste of it by adding some tasty maple syrup. While your store bought maple syrup should work, try to purchase maple syrup that is 100% pure and not made from corn syrup. Adding pure maple syrup will add a sweet, delicious taste that your friends and family will love.
You can easily accompany your maple syrup ham with some tasty sweet potatoes smothered in miniature marshmallows. Sweet potatoes will be your maple syrup ham’s best friend. For an extra treat, add miniature marshmallows and you will definetly get some smiles from children and adults alike.
Easter Bunny Cookies
Even though chocolate bunnies are pivotal to Easter, cookies can also be an excellent treat. Just like Christmas cookies are fun to make and yummy to eat, so are Easter Bunny cookies. Most grocery stores, discount stores, and craft stores sell Easter Bunny cookie cutters to make your favorite chocolate chip or sugar cookie into some fantastic Easter Bunny shapes.
Easter Egg Cup Cakes
Easter Egg cup cakes are an awesome way to add enthusiasm to the holidays for your children. Easter Egg Cupcakes are an easy and fun way to bring color to any Easter dinner dessert. Instead of using cup cake holders, try to use small waffle cones to hold your cup cake mixture. Once baked, add coloring, sprinkles, candy, etc. to your creation.
Easter Bunny Carrot Cake
Easter Bunny carrot cake is an awesome way to add color and excitement for the whole family. What goes better with bunny rabbits than carrots and a yummy carrot cake goes with any Easter dinner. You can easily purchase a carrot cake and decorate the top by hand. Many people create their own frosting adding food coloring to color the carrot cake to look like an Easter egg.
Easter Cocktails
For those adults that like to top off their dinner with a delicious alcoholic beverage, there are many colorful cocktails that compliment the mood of any Easter dinner. For example, certain liquors come in various colors such as grenadine for rose, blue Curacao for cerulean and mixing clear liquor with assorted fruit juices for multicolored Easter drinks. For those that prefer a cocktail sans the alcohol, it’s easy to add color to your event with a host of fresh fruit smoothies, just by adding fresh fruit with cream or milk. Some people even add some yogurt to the mix.
If you are looking for a great way to enjoy your Easter this year, follow the above Easter recipes.

Another Mother’s Day has come around, giving us the chance to show our heartfelt appreciation for the special women in our lives. Mothers tend to be the center of our universe when we are young, as we depend on them for everything and they graciously provide for all of our physical and emotional need. But now that we are adults our relationships have changed. She’ll always be your mother, but now she’s also become a helper, a teacher, a friend and even a confidante. So we have even more reasons to be grateful and make this Mother’s Day as special as we possibly can.
And if you have children, it’s up to you to make sure that they have the help necessary to give mom the best gift ever. Kids love to make their mom happy on her special day, but sometimes it can be a little hard to get started. That’s why with these easy and cute ideas will be the perfect thing to thrill mom this Mother’s Day, and the kids will have fun providing her gift too!
<b>A Day on a Cruise Card</b>
Let’s face it, being a mom is hard work. That’s why practically every mom would like to take a relaxing cruise on the Mediterranean. Unfortunately, this may be a bit pricey for a child, but that doesn’t mean they still can’t create the sentiment. Have the child put together a “Cruise Photo Card” for mom, just make sure that there is an adult there to supervise the entire project. Give the child a piece of white construction paper and some crayons and have them draw their own luxury cruise liner. Make sure the ship includes all the usual luxury items, like a main deck, a pool deck, a first class deck, and so on. Draw the boat in the ocean, and then they can name the cruise ship something appropriate for mom. For example, make mom smile with the title of “Mom’s Dream Boat.” Then give them some pictures of family members to glue on various locations on the ship. For instance, you could stick a picture of dad on one of the cabin windows, put your dog on the main deck, and show mom relaxing by the pool. Then all you need is to help the child construct a nice note to mom on the picture relaying their happy wishes to her for Mother’s Day. And there you go. This can be a great craft project for children of all ages, as it doesn’t require too much skill. Now mom will have a wonderful keepsake to keep for years to come.
<b>”My Mom and Me” Teddy Bear Hug</b>
If the cruise ship idea isn’t your cup of tea, another option can be to create a teddy bear family. All you’ll need for this project will be two teddy bears (one small and one large), some ribbons, red construction paper, and some crayons or markers. Place the small bear next to the bigger bear, or in front of it, and then connect them with the ribbon. This symbolizes how mom protects and cares for them. You could even have them face each other. Then you can help (or at least supervise) as the child uses the construction paper to cut out the shape of a heart or a flower. On the construction paper shape have them write a loving message to their mom. Then, use some more ribbon to tie the message to the little bear, as if its giving the message to its bear mama. There is no mother whose heart won’t melt a little when she receives this gift from her little one. Remember, gifts built from scratch always mean more, especially when they are created by the children we love!
So there you go, with these easy to create Mother’s Day gifts, you can set the tone for the perfect day. Children don’t need to be great artists to melt mom’s heart, after all, neither of these ideas requires a lot of skill. And all they need is some basic items such as paper, crayons, and the timeless and adorable gift of a teddy bear! Remember, when mom pulls this gift out years later she’ll instantly feel the love she felt that Mother’s Day!

Canada Day, originally known as Dominion Day, is the anniversary of Canada’s independence from Britain. It is celebrated on July 1st, is a national holiday and is a great opportunity to have fun as a family.
Here are some things your family can do to celebrate Canada Day:
Fireworks celebrations are held in many locations to celebrate the holiday. Scan the newspapers to find out when and where they will be held. Often there are other events such as live music and craft shows before the fireworks show. If there are other family attractions nearby that you would like to visit, leave early and make a day of it.
A tour of historic Canadian places makes an educational Canada Day activity. If your town or one nearby has a good town website, it can be an excellent source of information about nearby historic places. Tours are often available for a small fee. Learning about your country’s history is a worthwhile way to spend the anniversary of its confederation.
Family outings are a Canada Day tradition. A picnic in the park is a great family activity for the day. Pack some sandwiches, drinks, and snacks. Load up frisbees, tennis racquets, and other sports equipment. Then head off to the park for a day of family fun.
A family camping trip would be a wonderful way to celebrate. It takes some planning, but camping is truly fun for the whole family. Be sure not to forget the insect repellent, sunscreen, lots of outdoor toys, first aid supplies, and plenty of food. Then take the camper (or tents if you really want to rough it) and head out for an adventure.
Bike trips through scenic areas are a nice way to celebrate while enjoying the country’s natural beauty. Canada is home to many bike trails, and Canada Day is a good opportunity to take advantage of them. If you don’t know where the nearest trail is, check with your local visitor’s center or do an online search.
Canada Day crafts are a creative way to commemorate the holiday. Many Canada Day festivals offer the opportunity to do crafts, but you can also do them easily at home if you wish. You can find plenty of ideas online for everything from handprint Canadian flags to maple leaf hats to Mountie door hangers.
Canada Day festivals are jam-packed with activities that the whole family can enjoy. But you don’t have to go to a festival to have a fun day. You can stay home and have your own celebration, or participate in outdoor activities that allow you to enjoy the abundant natural resources that the country has to offer.
Need help making an arts & crafts style poetry book.?
Hello all,
Well like i said i am making a poetry book for my girlfriend for when she leaves to college sept. 18th. I have 30 poems & 3 songs that will be in it. i want it to be hand made and unique. the poems are all going to be individually put on nice parchment paper, but i am not sure if i should use cardboard or construction paper for the cover page and back cover. i was going to have my 4 year old nephew draw fun things on the cover to get the arts side to it. it is going to be 3 hole punched and tied with twine to hold it together. any other or better ideas are always thanked. i have never done a thing like this before so ladies and guys help out. thank you
Your idea Sounds great! I would use scrapbook paper…it’s acid free and heavy . Construction paper I would not even consider. I’d put the pages in a pretty shiny folder if the scrapbook-paper is too expensive..

I changed my lesson plans. I will now do it on America and Freedom. Any thoughts on what activities I could do for preschoolers ? It should be active and educational. Such as math, science, reading, arts&crafts, drama/music etc.
For instance, one student teacher is going to show them the the significance of the American Flag and sort out the colors (math) and count the stars (also math) and possibly say the Pledge of Allegiance (music)
That was my original idea however, she goes before
me so I cannot do that.
Any more ideas you could share for me ?
Thanks , you will get points if you share your ideas.
Math- Have the numbers 1-?on a piece of paper. Then have them place the correct number of flags under each number.
Music-Dance/sing Yankee Doodle or the Star Spangle Banner. You can give the kids an instrument so they can play along to the music. You can also have all the kids line up behind you and march to the music.
Arts & Crafts-Have the kids make a flag from paper. They can glue on the stripes and the stars.
Patriotic Wind Sock-Construction paper (blue and white) Red and white crepe paper streamers, Glue, String, Scissors, Hole punch.
Cut stars from the white paper and have the kids glue them onto the blue paper. Then staple the two ends together. Next glue on the red and white streamers to the bottom of blue paper. Punch four holes along the top of the wind sock. Cut two pieces of string about a foot long. Tie the strings to the wind sock (tie the opposite ends of a string to holes on opposite sides of the cylinder). Tie a longer piece of string to the smaller pieces – you’ll hang the wind sock from this piece of string.

If you have ever held a child’s birthday party at home, or been to someone who has, you know that it is much easier if you spend a little time planning party ideas ahead of time. A room filled with sugared up kids hyped on cake and excitement need fun activities to keep the party moving.
When making your game plans, make sure that you stick to your party’s theme. There is always the traditional “Pin the Tail on the Donkey”, but if you have another theme party, incorporate that. Play “Pin the License Plate on the Car” for Vehicle Themed parties, “Butterfly on the Flower” for Garden Themed parties, “Heart on the Tin Man” for The Wizard of Oz… you catch the drift. Blindfolded child, spun in circles – heading towards a target. No birthday party is complete without some variation of this game.
How low can YOU go? That’s the Limbo question. Take a limbo stick (or a broom handle at my party), play some limbo music, and have the kids go in a circle. To jazz up the game, add some unexpected elements. I had the kids have to keep up with a moving limbo stick as it changed sides of the couch, and it would be raising and lowering. This was more fun than taking time out, and the kids were laughing and gasping for breath when we finished.
Musical chairs is always a winner, since it uses music and action. Line up chairs one short of the number of players. You know the rest, right? Play the music, when it stops the one standing is out. Keep it going until only one person is standing. Make sure to throw the kids off balance by making each one a winner when they get “out” with a small prize.
This one is only for those who are not faint of heart. An egg race is a novel idea for younger kids. If you aren’t game for cleaning up slime and egg goo, then make sure to have hard-boiled eggs on hand. Have the kids line up and put an egg on a spoon. If they make it across the finish line, they win.
To keep kids running until it’s time to go home, have a candy clean up party. Either use a piniata, or just throw candy. Give each kid a goody bag, and they stock it themselves. Kids plus candy, and I promise you won’t find any leftovers. Make sure to keep a few extras to pass out for those a little more timid.
One of the favorites at my house is midnight hide and seek. Either inside or out, have the kids hide once it is completely dark. The rest is traditional hide and seek, but the seeker cannot SEE the other kids. This makes a fun and completely silly game. Make sure your space is safe before you do this one, since kids will be running to safety in the dark.
There are countless resources to give you ideas for birthday party games. Ask your child for ideas – they might just surprise you with their creativity. Make sure to consider making snacks, or arts and crafts. Water games are always good, too. There’s just so much fun to be had! Maybe that’s why we get a birthday every year, so we can try all the games.
Fun and super bouncy, these translucent ribbon filled bouncy balls flash and illuminate when bounced. Pile them into a big bowl for a festive party centerpiece and let quests take them home for party favors.

Once the days are shorter and colder, entertaining an active toddler can become really hard work. This is where your list of toddler winter craft ideas also becomes your life line and your sanity. As a parent there is one place you can never avoid – the kitchen, hence this is the best place to stick your list of toddler winter craft ideas.
You toddler winter craft ideas list needs to grow with your toddler – as he learns and progresses so will your list. You will also find out which crafts he/she enjoys most and be able to develop more of these. It is worth speaking to the other mothers who have been driven out of the parks by the rain and cold and suggest that they too have a toddler winter craft ideas list, this way you can all swap ideas and the list will extend fairly fast, with tried and tested ideas.
When you are developing projects for your toddler winter craft ideas list you need to choose projects which are suitable for your toddlers attention span – short. If an idea does not work do not write it off as a failure, simply pack it up for that day and try again another day, or discuss it with another mother who may have an idea how to adjust it to make it more successful.
A good starting point for toddler winter craft ideas is the simple paper plate. You can decorate it to make a picture; make a cut from the edge to the center and sticky tape it into a cone, decorate the outside and use it as a hat; make a cone out of it, decorate it and put pop corn in it; cut it in half, stick some pieces of ribbon hanging off the straight edge and make a jelly fish; cut it in half, remove two eyes, and a triangular shape so it fits over the nose and you have a mask. All simple and cheap toddler winter craft ideas from a plate – none of which require preparation and can be packed away quickly when they want to move onto something else.
If you have an older child as well you can probably get them working along the same lines as your toddler winter craft idea, for example the older sibling could help make the popcorn for to go in the cone; could paint a sea scene to put the jelly fish in … Once you get into the swing of it the possibilities are endless.
Remember, put a piece of paper on the kitchen wall titled Toddler Winter Craft Ideas and when you think of something just jot it down and it will be there next time you need to distract your toddler – never rely on your memory as the times when these ideas are most needed are probably the times when you are most stressed. You may also want to have a box in the kitchen where you can put useful supplies. It is probably best to keep this out of reach so that when you need it the stuff is still there, otherwise you may find your efforts unintentionally sabotaged by your toddlers exploring fingers!

Presidents Day Facts:
Presidents Day, also known as Washington’s Birthday or Washington and Lincoln Day, is a United States Federal Holiday, celebrated the third Monday of February.
Presidents’ Day is also known as a day to celebrate General Washington’s creation of the first military badge of merit for the common soldier – the Purple Heart – which was revived on Washington’s 200th birthday in 1932. Many people honor US veterans over Washington’s birthday weekend.
In New Mexico, President’s Day, as a state government paid holiday, is observed on the Friday after Thanksgiving.
Because Presidents Day is not the official name for the federal holiday, many spellings are accepted with no right or wrong. President’s Day, Presidents Day, and Presidents’ Day are all commonly used spellings of the holiday’s name.

Also be sure that your makeup and hair are done fairly early as the wedding photographs take a while to shoot before and after the ceremony. Plan your time accordingly so you will not run late.
You can also include a video/pictorial slideshow during the reception on a projection screen for all in attendance to view the lovely photographs taken by Assyrian Wedding Photography before and during the ceremony. These have become even more popular within the last 2-3 years in receptions. You will also get a copy for yourself to look back upon and after the reception the wedding photographer can add photos taken from the reception s well to it for a lasting collage of the most important day in both of your lives.

Making things for your own wedding can be a fun way to put your own personal stamp on the day. Diy projects are also a great way to help keep your wedding budget from running amok. Many of the best projects tie in with the season of the wedding; here are some wonderful craft ideas for fall weddings.
Fall is actually one of the easiest seasons for a crafter. There are many natural materials available to work with as well as to use for inspiration for paper crafts. You can sprinkle autumnal diy elements throughout your wedding to make it more special and beautiful.
Pumpkins are one of the favorite decorating elements for fall. A very simple idea that anyone can do is to hollow out fresh pumpkins and fill them with flowers like mums and mini sunflowers for the reception centerpieces. If you like the general concept of pumpkin vessels but are not using the traditional fall colors for your wedding, substitute elegant small white pumpkins for the classic orange variety. A group of three white pumpkins filled with miniature red roses or purple asters would be darling centerpieces for an upscale fall celebration.
The wedding favors are another thing that a creative bride can easily make herself. For a fall wedding, think warm and cozy. A little packet including things like cinnamon sticks and mulling spices for apple cider would be a cute parting gift, as long as it is attractively packaged. In fact, that is a tip about wedding favors in general: they do not need to be expensive or elaborate as long as the packaging looks stylish. Put your cinnamon and spices in a clear glassine bag. Fold over the top and seal with a custom sticker (you can even print them yourself) that has instructions for how to make the perfect mulled cider. For a final touch, create paper leaves to attach to the bag with a sweet thank you from the bride and groom. If you would like, you could create some continuity by tying the same little paper leaves to the bridesmaid jewelry boxes when you give your attendants their gifts before the wedding. It is a nice little fall motif to carry throughout your event.
Autumn is the season for fresh crisp apples unlike those you get at the store the rest of the year. You can take advantage of this by using them as a jumping off point for some creative projects. For instance, a paper leaf tied to the stem of a real apple is a great look for the escort cards. The apples will look very nice lined up on a table at the entrance to your reception, and best of all, once they have found their seats, the guests can enjoy snacking on the apples. A cute variation on this idea would be to make escort cards in the shape of little red apples and hang them off a tree (either a real one, or a tabletop version made from branches in a base) at the door of the reception.
If you are a serious knitter, one final idea for a special craft for your wedding would be to knit a lacy wrap for each of your bridesmaids. (The smaller your bridal party, the more feasible this idea would be, obviously.) It is a nice touch for an outdoor wedding when the weather is likely to turn chilly. A handknit wrap paired with a nice piece of bridesmaid jewelry like crystal earrings would be a very special way to show your appreciation for your friends.
There are many more wonderful things that you can make for a fall wedding. Use your creativity and think about your particular favorite craft, whether it is scrapbooking, origami, or something else. It is such a nice touch to have elements at your wedding that you have put your heart into creating.

If you teach students, like me, then you will forever be on the look out for easy classroom crafts that your students can make when Halloween nears. The best way to keep children occupied is by involving them in an activity in which they get to make something on their own and the most opportune season would be Halloween. This is a great time to get your class to make decorations that can make the classroom look festive and vibrant. There are innumerable classroom crafts that you could try. Here are some crafts that your your students can make and which I have personally found to be a hit with the children.
One great classroom craft that you can make is the fun ghost. All you need to use is white construction paper and the feet of your students. Make the students remove their shoes and stand on the white construction paper. Trace the outside of each foot but leave out the toes. If possible, get the kids to work together at tracing each other’s foot. Then make the cut the footprints out. The ghost’s head will be the foot heel. They can use black construction paper or permanent marker to draw the ghost face. The remaining bits of white construction paper left from the foot tracing can be used as the arms. The students can glue the arms of the ghost. Punch a hole on top of the ghost’s head and pull a string through it so that the ghost can be hung from the ceiling, doors and other surfaces to make the room spooky.
In addition to ghosts, you can even have some bats flying around your room. This is another Halloween craft that has worked well with the students. First, take an egg carton. Ask the kids to cut out three successive cups from the carton using scissors. Make sure that the three cups remain attached. Cut out the back and front of the outer two cups to form the wings. Then paint the bat black using black paint. Once the paint has dried, the children can either draw the eyes using white paint or paste googly eyes for the bats. Then pull a string through a hole punched at the top of the central cup and tie it. Make sure the string does not pull at the hole. Hang the bats along with the ghosts and your classroom will be full of great Halloween crafts.
These are just a few of the various classroom crafts that you can try out. There are many other crafts that will thrill your students and drive them to accomplish more. A lot of students have told that even their parents were thrilled when they took their creations home. You will, of course, have to ask the students to bring their own supplies, as this is to be expected while planning a classroom craft project. Let your kids exercise their imagination and express their creativity any way they want.
