Digging Up Dinosaurs

Practically all children and probably most adults find the subject of dinosaurs fascinating and intriguing. Learning about dinosaurs stretches our imaginations and allows us to experience a world very different from our own today. It seems the more we learn about these awesome creatures, the more we want to learn. Learn more about these prehistoric creatures who lived on Earth for 165 million years, travel back in with these dinosaur inspired crafts, activities, games, and other resources.

Dinosaur Egg
In a shallow bowl mix some flour and water until you get a runny paste. Tear some newspaper into small strips. Place an inflated balloon on top of a cup or a small container so that it doesn’t tip over. Dip and soak newspaper strips in the paste and remove excess paste. Place strips on the balloon. Overlap strips until the whole balloon is completely covered. Apply three of four layers and let dry. When strips are completely dry, let your child paint the egg.

Dinosaur Bones
Spray paint a number of small dog bones white. Place them in a shallow rectangular baking dish and cover with sand or clean dirt. Tell your child to pretend that he/she is a paleontologist and that he/she will be digging for dinosaur fossils. Because dinosaurs are now extinct, he/she must examine and study these fossils to understand the history of this fascinating group of animals. Explain that the bones and the ground around the dinosaurs let us know when the dinosaurs died and what the climate was like when they lived. Just digging up the fossils could take years! Provide children with digging tools such as small toy shovels, paintbrushes, sticks, etc.

Dinosaur Activity
Make two identical sets of dinosaur pictures. (You can find great dinosaur templates on our site or in coloring books.) Place the pictures face down on a table or on the floor and mix them up. Have your child turn over a picture. Then have him/her turn over another picture to try to find its match. If the two pictures don’t match, have your child turn the pictures over and try again. Play until all the pictures are matched.

Fossil Dinosaur Craft
Have children make imprints in playdough using pennies or leaves. Explain how this is very similar to how dinosaur fossils were made. Bones made imprints in the mud. This mud hardened and became a rock or stone. When this rock or stone is broken the imprint is still in place. Explain that we can learn about dinosaurs through fossils.

Dino, Dino, Who Has Your Bone?
Have your child close his/her eyes. Hide the dino bone. (A dog’s chew toy bone makes a good dino bone.) Say, “Dino, Dino, who has your bone, somebody stole it from your home. Guess who!†Have your child try to find the bone.

Dinosaur Salad
Explain that many dinosaurs were plant eaters. Discuss with your child that fruits and vegetables are parts of plants. Provide a variety of fruits and vegetables. Peel and slice the fruits/vegetables and place in a bowl. Mix together. Serve on a paper plate. Ask your child to eat his/her fruit or vegetable salad just as dinosaurs might have—without hands. Some suggested fruits and vegetables: bananas, apples, grapes, oranges, cantaloupe, watermelon, strawberries, lettuce, carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower.

Dinosaur Dancing
Discuss different ways the dinosaurs moved. Walk slowly like a Triceratops, run fast like a Compsognathus, etc. Play some instrumental music and let your child move or dance around like a dinosaur.

Another Mother’s Day has come around, giving us the chance to show our heartfelt appreciation for the special women in our lives. Mothers tend to be the center of our universe when we are young, as we depend on them for everything and they graciously provide for all of our physical and emotional need. But now that we are adults our relationships have changed. She’ll always be your mother, but now she’s also become a helper, a teacher, a friend and even a confidante. So we have even more reasons to be grateful and make this Mother’s Day as special as we possibly can.

And if you have children, it’s up to you to make sure that they have the help necessary to give mom the best gift ever. Kids love to make their mom happy on her special day, but sometimes it can be a little hard to get started. That’s why with these easy and cute ideas will be the perfect thing to thrill mom this Mother’s Day, and the kids will have fun providing her gift too!

<b>A Day on a Cruise Card</b>

Let’s face it, being a mom is hard work. That’s why practically every mom would like to take a relaxing cruise on the Mediterranean. Unfortunately, this may be a bit pricey for a child, but that doesn’t mean they still can’t create the sentiment. Have the child put together a “Cruise Photo Card” for mom, just make sure that there is an adult there to supervise the entire project. Give the child a piece of white construction paper and some crayons and have them draw their own luxury cruise liner. Make sure the ship includes all the usual luxury items, like a main deck, a pool deck, a first class deck, and so on. Draw the boat in the ocean, and then they can name the cruise ship something appropriate for mom. For example, make mom smile with the title of “Mom’s Dream Boat.” Then give them some pictures of family members to glue on various locations on the ship. For instance, you could stick a picture of dad on one of the cabin windows, put your dog on the main deck, and show mom relaxing by the pool. Then all you need is to help the child construct a nice note to mom on the picture relaying their happy wishes to her for Mother’s Day. And there you go. This can be a great craft project for children of all ages, as it doesn’t require too much skill. Now mom will have a wonderful keepsake to keep for years to come.

<b>”My Mom and Me” Teddy Bear Hug</b>

If the cruise ship idea isn’t your cup of tea, another option can be to create a teddy bear family. All you’ll need for this project will be two teddy bears (one small and one large), some ribbons, red construction paper, and some crayons or markers. Place the small bear next to the bigger bear, or in front of it, and then connect them with the ribbon. This symbolizes how mom protects and cares for them. You could even have them face each other. Then you can help (or at least supervise) as the child uses the construction paper to cut out the shape of a heart or a flower. On the construction paper shape have them write a loving message to their mom. Then, use some more ribbon to tie the message to the little bear, as if its giving the message to its bear mama. There is no mother whose heart won’t melt a little when she receives this gift from her little one. Remember, gifts built from scratch always mean more, especially when they are created by the children we love!

So there you go, with these easy to create Mother’s Day gifts, you can set the tone for the perfect day. Children don’t need to be great artists to melt mom’s heart, after all, neither of these ideas requires a lot of skill. And all they need is some basic items such as paper, crayons, and the timeless and adorable gift of a teddy bear! Remember, when mom pulls this gift out years later she’ll instantly feel the love she felt that Mother’s Day!

America and Freedom Activities For Preschoolers?

I changed my lesson plans. I will now do it on America and Freedom. Any thoughts on what activities I could do for preschoolers ? It should be active and educational. Such as math, science, reading, arts&crafts, drama/music etc.

For instance, one student teacher is going to show them the the significance of the American Flag and sort out the colors (math) and count the stars (also math) and possibly say the Pledge of Allegiance (music)

That was my original idea however, she goes before
me so I cannot do that.

Any more ideas you could share for me ?
Thanks , you will get points if you share your ideas.

Math- Have the numbers 1-?on a piece of paper. Then have them place the correct number of flags under each number.

Music-Dance/sing Yankee Doodle or the Star Spangle Banner. You can give the kids an instrument so they can play along to the music. You can also have all the kids line up behind you and march to the music.

Arts & Crafts-Have the kids make a flag from paper. They can glue on the stripes and the stars.
Patriotic Wind Sock-Construction paper (blue and white) Red and white crepe paper streamers, Glue, String, Scissors, Hole punch.

Cut stars from the white paper and have the kids glue them onto the blue paper. Then staple the two ends together. Next glue on the red and white streamers to the bottom of blue paper. Punch four holes along the top of the wind sock. Cut two pieces of string about a foot long. Tie the strings to the wind sock (tie the opposite ends of a string to holes on opposite sides of the cylinder). Tie a longer piece of string to the smaller pieces – you’ll hang the wind sock from this piece of string.

craft lessons teaching writing

Writing a computer lesson plan is very easy for some teachers, but a lot of teachers find it very difficult. The most passionate teachers will find that writing lessons for their computer classes is very difficult. The reason for this is that a passion for computer doesn’t always translate into the ability to organize a cohesive educational lecture or class. Teachers that have difficulty putting their passion into a computer lesson plan often need some tools to help them put it all down on paper or even a computer. This may take some practice, but every teacher can learn how to write great lessons that will take your passion and make it the passion of your students, as well.

There are many tools that you can use as a computer teacher to enrich your lessons writing process. First, you can use a planner or planning book. These are usually a great way to write down a rough idea of what you plan to teach from day to day, but they are not always enough. If you are organized you can write down the objective of all of the lessons and what you plan to tie into the lesson in the way of worksheets, crafts, textbook assignments, research papers, etc. Many teachers try this approach and have a lot of success while others find that they cannot form organized lessons in the planners and similar tools. Organization is key when using this type of tool, because you want your lessons to flow from one day to the next.

If you have found that writing a computer lesson plan using all of the traditional tools doesn’t work well for you, or you just want a break from writing your own lessons, you might want to look into some of the spectacular software that is currently available to teachers. Much of the computer software that is on the market has fully prepared lessons for teachers to use with their students. The lessons are written by teachers for teachers, so there is no need to worry about content or how complete the lessons may or may not be. You might not want to use the lessons for all of your teaching but you might find that they are a good supplement to your own lessons.

This type of software can be very helpful for teachers of all levels of computer who want to take a break from their computer lesson plan writing but still want an enriching educational experience for students. For one of the best options on the market teachers may want to visit the http://www.lessonplans.com.au for some of the best software programs available. These programs are very easy to use and can help teachers introduce the use of computers in the computer classroom. The programs are very affordable, and if you are not satisfied with the product for any reason you can return it for a full refund, no questions asked. Great software is hard to come by, but this is one of the best companies to work with on the Internet and with a full refund possible, you have nothing to lose!

seasonal craft ideas

Making things for your own wedding can be a fun way to put your own personal stamp on the day. Diy projects are also a great way to help keep your wedding budget from running amok. Many of the best projects tie in with the season of the wedding; here are some wonderful craft ideas for fall weddings.

Fall is actually one of the easiest seasons for a crafter. There are many natural materials available to work with as well as to use for inspiration for paper crafts. You can sprinkle autumnal diy elements throughout your wedding to make it more special and beautiful.

Pumpkins are one of the favorite decorating elements for fall. A very simple idea that anyone can do is to hollow out fresh pumpkins and fill them with flowers like mums and mini sunflowers for the reception centerpieces. If you like the general concept of pumpkin vessels but are not using the traditional fall colors for your wedding, substitute elegant small white pumpkins for the classic orange variety. A group of three white pumpkins filled with miniature red roses or purple asters would be darling centerpieces for an upscale fall celebration.

The wedding favors are another thing that a creative bride can easily make herself. For a fall wedding, think warm and cozy. A little packet including things like cinnamon sticks and mulling spices for apple cider would be a cute parting gift, as long as it is attractively packaged. In fact, that is a tip about wedding favors in general: they do not need to be expensive or elaborate as long as the packaging looks stylish. Put your cinnamon and spices in a clear glassine bag. Fold over the top and seal with a custom sticker (you can even print them yourself) that has instructions for how to make the perfect mulled cider. For a final touch, create paper leaves to attach to the bag with a sweet thank you from the bride and groom. If you would like, you could create some continuity by tying the same little paper leaves to the bridesmaid jewelry boxes when you give your attendants their gifts before the wedding. It is a nice little fall motif to carry throughout your event.

Autumn is the season for fresh crisp apples unlike those you get at the store the rest of the year. You can take advantage of this by using them as a jumping off point for some creative projects. For instance, a paper leaf tied to the stem of a real apple is a great look for the escort cards. The apples will look very nice lined up on a table at the entrance to your reception, and best of all, once they have found their seats, the guests can enjoy snacking on the apples. A cute variation on this idea would be to make escort cards in the shape of little red apples and hang them off a tree (either a real one, or a tabletop version made from branches in a base) at the door of the reception.

If you are a serious knitter, one final idea for a special craft for your wedding would be to knit a lacy wrap for each of your bridesmaids. (The smaller your bridal party, the more feasible this idea would be, obviously.) It is a nice touch for an outdoor wedding when the weather is likely to turn chilly. A handknit wrap paired with a nice piece of bridesmaid jewelry like crystal earrings would be a very special way to show your appreciation for your friends.

There are many more wonderful things that you can make for a fall wedding. Use your creativity and think about your particular favorite craft, whether it is scrapbooking, origami, or something else. It is such a nice touch to have elements at your wedding that you have put your heart into creating.

If you teach students, like me, then you will forever be on the look out for easy classroom crafts that your students can make when Halloween nears. The best way to keep children occupied is by involving them in an activity in which they get to make something on their own and the most opportune season would be Halloween. This is a great time to get your class to make decorations that can make the classroom look festive and vibrant. There are innumerable classroom crafts that you could try. Here are some crafts that your your students can make and which I have personally found to be a hit with the children.

One great classroom craft that you can make is the fun ghost. All you need to use is white construction paper and the feet of your students. Make the students remove their shoes and stand on the white construction paper. Trace the outside of each foot but leave out the toes. If possible, get the kids to work together at tracing each other’s foot. Then make the cut the footprints out. The ghost’s head will be the foot heel. They can use black construction paper or permanent marker to draw the ghost face. The remaining bits of white construction paper left from the foot tracing can be used as the arms. The students can glue the arms of the ghost. Punch a hole on top of the ghost’s head and pull a string through it so that the ghost can be hung from the ceiling, doors and other surfaces to make the room spooky.

In addition to ghosts, you can even have some bats flying around your room. This is another Halloween craft that has worked well with the students. First, take an egg carton. Ask the kids to cut out three successive cups from the carton using scissors. Make sure that the three cups remain attached. Cut out the back and front of the outer two cups to form the wings. Then paint the bat black using black paint. Once the paint has dried, the children can either draw the eyes using white paint or paste googly eyes for the bats. Then pull a string through a hole punched at the top of the central cup and tie it. Make sure the string does not pull at the hole. Hang the bats along with the ghosts and your classroom will be full of great Halloween crafts.

These are just a few of the various classroom crafts that you can try out. There are many other crafts that will thrill your students and drive them to accomplish more. A lot of students have told that even their parents were thrilled when they took their creations home. You will, of course, have to ask the students to bring their own supplies, as this is to be expected while planning a classroom craft project. Let your kids exercise their imagination and express their creativity any way they want.

Tutoring is a fast growing and extremely popular profession in the modern era. With students not receiving individual attention in school and working parents lacking the time to help their children with school work, more and more people now search for tutors.

Tutors are sought for in many areas, in which skills can be taught and acquired. For example in academic subjects such as math, languages & geometry, for sports such as tennis, swimming & baseball, for acquiring computer skills such as word processing, designing & programming or even for hobbies such as sewing, crafting or sculpting.

Tutoring to students is carried out in many ways. “In-home” tutoring is when the tutor visits the home of the student to offer his/her services while “at-my-place” tutoring is when the student visits the home of the tutor to obtain his/her services. Online tutoring and email tutoring is when the tutor and student conduct their lessons via the help of the internet. For online tutoring a specific time is set between the tutor and the student to carry out the lesson through instant messaging services such as Yahoo, AOL, MSN, etc. Email tutoring is when the tutor and the student rely on emails to perform their lessons. The advantage of online and email tutoring is that the tutor and the student need not be in the same city or country to carry out the studies and also the time and money spent on commuting is saved.

With the increase of demand for tutors, more and more people prefer to stay at home and start their own tutoring venture. The most essential qualifications that are required to become a tutor, with the exception of having an in-depth knowledge of the subject or subjects which you are going to teach are good communication skills, enduring patience and the ability to connect with your students. You should also posses the qualities of reliability and dependability. Sticking to the planned schedules with your students are very important since you are providing a valuable service.

Having your own online tutoring venture provides you with many advantages. For starters you would be working from home which in turn provides you with more time to spend with your family. Reduction of costs involved in commuting and of acquiring office attire is another advantage. In addition you would be having more flexibility. And above all you can have the satisfaction in providing an esteemed service to the society.

You can carry out this venture as a part time or full time occupation. Also the subjects and the number of subjects that you want to tutor, completely depends on you. When considering the subjects, it is important that you have a thorough understanding in that particular field. In the tutoring profession your potential students could vary from elementary to high school or even grown ups who require tutoring in specific areas such as the computer field or hobbies. The number of subjects that you wish to tutor depends on the amount of energy and time you can utilize for this venture.

As an independent tutor you would have an advantage over tutoring companies, since you would be providing one-to-one tutoring which most parents prefer for their children at a much friendlier rate.

Starting a tutoring business costs very little and it provides a steady source of income all year round. Your tutoring rates will depend on your experience, the demand for that specific subject and the market price. If you are new to this venture it is always better to charge less than the competitors till you are able to gain experience and prove your value in the field.

When launching your own online business, you should first determine the number of subjects you want to tutor and the age group you are focusing on. Depending on these factors you can concentrate on your target audience, how to approach them and your marketing strategy. Even though “word of mouth” is the biggest marketing tool in this profession, having a website is another significant way to market your online tutoring venture.

When conducting tutoring sessions, in order to make it as effective as possible you should prepare your sessions in advance, know your subject and any changes in the content, be professional and supportive of the student. The keys to succession in the online tutoring profession are being result oriented, establishing sound relationships with the students and their parents and providing an exceptional service.

craft ideas apples
I need an idea for tying Caramel Apples into a lesson about God/Jesus. Any ideas?

I have a girls club. I am having them dip make caramel apples for their snack/craft today. Any ideas on how to incorporate this into a lesson about Jesus/God.
Our verse today is
If the LORD delights in a man’s way,
he makes his steps firm;
though he stumble, he will not fall,
for the LORD upholds him with his hand.

The apple represents us. The carmel represents God’s word. When we read the Bible we are like a carmel apple rapped in the sheild of God’s word. Hope this helps.
